đ About NA in Guam
NA Guam is a fellowship rooted in recovery, resilience, and community. From humble beginnings in the 1980s to a thriving fellowship today, we continue to grow together â one day at a time.
Growth
Narcotics Anonymous first established its presence on Guam in the 1980s, primarily with members living abroad. Local membership began to flourish in the 1990s, but by the early 2000s, the fellowship had dwindled to just three active members. Through perseverance and shared recovery, membership has grown again â today we have numerous members with multiple years, and some with decades, of being drugâfree.
Membership
Most of our membersâ first experiences with NA come through referrals from treatment centers and the local court system. Others hear our message of recovery within prison walls through our Hospitals & Institutions (H&I) efforts. We maintain a cooperative, nonâaffiliated relationship with these organizations, united by the common goal of helping addicts find recovery.
Many also discover NA through outreach â members sharing the benefits of the program with those struggling in daily life. However you arrive, you are welcome here.
âWe are not interested in what or how much you used, but only in what you want to do about your problem and how we can help.â â NA Fellowship
Community Impact
Guam is a closeâknit island community, and addiction has touched many of us â whether itâs a friend, a coworker, or a loved one. The drug problem here is significant and persistent, but our closeness allows us to support one another through the challenges of addiction. NA Guam is part of that support system, offering hope and connection where isolation once lived.
Program and Principles
The NA program offers a credible path to recovery. We invite everyone to attend a meeting and listen. We offer hope â that any addict can stop using drugs and learn a new way of life. Guided by spiritual principles, our 12âstep program supports a new way of living. Experienced members mentor newcomers through these steps, and through sponsorâsponsee relationships we learn to live life again without drugs.
âOur program is a set of principles written so simply that we can follow them in our daily lives. The most important thing about them is that they work.â â NA Basic Text
Meetings and Activities
Our local service structure includes four groups with regular weekly meetings, some held within institutions. This ensures that there is a meeting available every day of the week, helping us stay connected to the NA fellowship. Our groups also host events throughout the year, showing that we can still have fun and enjoy life without drugs.
The NA Way
We are a group of individuals who have endured the horrors of addiction. Alone, we couldnât stop using drugs, but together, weâve discovered a new way to live â the NA way. Our shared experiences and mutual support have helped us find recovery and hope, and we are committed to helping others do the same.
âJust for today, I will have faith in someone in NA who believes in me and wants to help me in my recovery.â â NA Just for Today
