🌴 Håfa Adai, newcomer!
Walking through the door is the hardest step — and you’ve already done it. This guide offers simple, proven suggestions for your first days and weeks in NA Guam.
🌸 About the program
Narcotics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope to recover from addiction.
- Membership: Our only requirement is the desire to stop using.
- Abstinence: We practice complete abstinence from all drugs and support one another through meetings and shared principles.
- Unity: We’re not affiliated with politics, religion, or law enforcement.
- Accessibility: No fees, no pledges, no strings attached.
“You never have to use again, one day at a time.” — NA Fellowship
🌊 Meeting suggestions
Consistency builds strength. Many newcomers find these suggestions helpful:
- 90 in 90: Attend 90 meetings in 90 days to build daily connection and support.
- Arrive early, stay late: Fellowship happens before and after the meeting.
- Listen and share honestly: Your story matters, and others’ stories will help you too.
- Keep coming back: Even if you don’t feel like it, showing up is recovery in action.
- Phone list: Exchange numbers and use them; call someone when you feel restless or alone.
- Daily reading: Read “Just for Today” to stay grounded.
🌸 The importance of a sponsor
A sponsor is another NA member who guides you through the 12 Steps and supports your recovery journey.
- Why get a sponsor? They’ve walked the path and can share what worked for them.
- How to choose: Look for someone whose recovery you respect and who has time to work with you.
- What they do: They listen, encourage, and help you apply NA principles in daily life.
- Action today: Ask at the end of a meeting, “Are you available to sponsor?”
“We need each other, and the program works best when we walk it together.” — NA Basic Text
📚 NA literature
- Basic Text: NA’s foundational book on recovery, unity, and living clean.
- Just for Today: Daily meditations to inspire hope and action.
- Pamphlets: Short guides on sponsorship, relapse, and the newcomer experience.
🧭 How it works
NA is built on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions.
- Steps: Personal recovery — a practical path to change.
- Traditions: Fellowship unity — how we stay together and thriving.
🛡️ Anonymity & safety
- Confidentiality: Who you see here, what you hear here, let it stay here.
- Respect: Share your experience; avoid giving advice about outside issues.
- Welcome back: If you relapse, you’re still welcome — keep coming back.
